Painting video: the making of Cubistic Modern

Do you want to see how Ronald Hunter makes a work of art? Keep reading and watch his latest painting video, where he shows you in a short timelapse how he makes one of his latest works.

As you may have noticed, Ronald Hunter is a prolific artist. Ideas come to him in a continuous stream throughout the day and he often tries out new styles and techniques.

In the past week he worked on a new series Art on Paper – ‘Cubistic Modern’. Each piece is characterized by geometric shapes and blocks of color, in different designs. You could say that they are somewhat reminiscent of the work of the Dutch artist Piet Mondriaan .

Ronald recorded in a timelapse video how he made the third piece (right). With this he wants to provide more insight into his art process.

Ronald tells us that he often doesn’t design his art in advance – he just gets to work. As you’ll see in the video, there are no lines drawn on the paper when Ronald starts:

I don't have a set plan when I start. You could say that I work intuitively, the shapes and colors come to me as I work. That's probably why I like to work fast, I have to keep up with my thoughts.

Ronald is not a perfectionist when it comes to his creations:

My goal is not to create perfection. My work is never perfect; the lines may overlap or the colors are not fully saturated.

What he does want is to take a fresh look at his art. You never know what his next step will be!
